Bob Kerrey had an interesting take on all this on IMUS this morning. He said alot of things i have been saying for some time, going back to vietnam.
#1 A foreign power could not win a guerilla war (or civil war) for our proxies--only the iraqis themselves could do this and this regime is reminiscent of SVietnam govt but without any teeth.
#2 Americans worry about civilian casualties and collateral damage, particularly in the age of instant communications. Our enemies over there revel in civilian deaths because it aids their cause.

MY add. Between all out war and diplomacy only, we must find middle ground. You may be able to negotiate with iran but you cant negotiate with bin laden, so the question becomes how best to fight al quaeda besides defensive policing at home. Do you think that what we did successfully in serbia has any merit in the wot? Do you think something like the Dayton accords can be used to successfully split up iraq which will be inevitable when american troops start bugging out?
