re: Efficient fabs will allow costs to be reduced, and profit to rise that is highly questionable. I believe that 65nm and 45nm chips are far more expensive than 130nm and 90nm. Companies are driven to lower geometry not because of the cost savings but because of the power consumption just my 2c -AK
