It's the Great Game. We are losing it to Russia and China. They be buying long term energy while we go bankrupt fighting for it. They are gonna win. We need to reconnect with Iran.

Good point. And I don't think most Americans, or even the Bush admininistration, has a problem with Iranians. I certainly don't.

But I have a problem with their religious government and the current leadership.

And I have a problem with the belief that these leaders holds that suggest they have the right to use violence and intimidation in order to force people to hold a particular spiritual belief.

IMO, any religious, or cult, belief that has to force people to follow their spiritual interpretations, is a danger. It's certainly an undesirable faith, from my perspective.

But we do need to reconnect with the Iranian people. And I've previously espoused this belief.. That it should be of critical importance to directly address the Iranian people in a manner that is respectful and not condescending. Hold out the hand of friendship to the young people of that country and you'll initiate a societal pressure for reform that can only be repressed in a violent and oppressive manner (ala China)... which will still leave the Iranian government with the problem of how to redeem themselves for having taken such an action) against people merely asking for reform and fairness.
