according to Nomai's 10q (their version of it) this "grant" would be the same as a social researcher in the US applying for a grant from the US Govt. (or so it reads). In exchange the French Govt. can either grant outright (no return) or require company shares as a return. In Nomai's case, I believe they required shares. So, in this sense, the French Govt. has a voting "position" in Nomai. But, this doesn't make Nomai any more powerful than Iomega in France. Iomega's products sell much better and faster in France than Nomai's (creating bigger tax revenues) and have most likely created more jobs both indirectly and directly. The French Govt. and courts are as greedy as anyone else. They'll sell to the highest "bidder". It's only a matter of time for this thing to straighten out. Even so, as others have stated, it has offered IOM greater, FREE publicity in France and Germany (something that would have cost them thousands through normal retail advertising channels). Iomega sold 850% more product in Europe than has Nomai in terms of dollars (since most of Nomai's product is sold to US affiliates outside of Europe) so it stands to reason that IOM will continue to use this leverage to their advantage both socially and economically.
