Congress Increases Indecency Fines Tenfold

The penalty for broadcasting indecent material on radio and television will increase tenfold to as much as $325,000 under legislation passed by the House today.

President Bush has vowed to sign the bill, called the Broadcast Decency Enforcement Act, into law. It was passed unanimously by the Senate last month and cleared the House by a vote of 379-35....

That's a big relief. That issue is really high on the list. I can hardly wait for the signing ceremony.

Once it passes, we can report C-SPAN to the FCC for broadcasting Senate and House floor debates.
