The elections were cancelled by the US and US Vietnamese allies in the South, who then more or less arbitrarily called themselves a country. Are you suggesting that any group that lives in an area be able to call themselves a country whenever they choose?

Sounds like the elections were cancelled by the Communists as well. After all, can you name one free and fair election that transpired in N. Vietnam?

How about one that occurred AFTER Vietnam was reunited under Communist leadership??

So your complaint about elections being canceled ring rather hollow.
