Acer's unit sales of notebooks in the China market shot up 104% sequentially to 115,000 units in the first quarter of this year, making the company the fourth largest notebook vendor in the market, according to a recent report by research firm International Data Corporation (IDC). Research firm Gartner Dataquest figured Acer's first-quarter sales in the China market at 100,000 units, according to an early report.

Asustek Computer was ranked the fifth largest vendor in China in the first quarter of 2006, with unit sales totaling 113,000 units, while BenQ saw its ranking slip from ninth to eleventh with sales reaching only 34,000 units, according to IDC data.

China-based Lenovo retained its title as the largest vendor but had its share in China's notebook market decline to 28% in the first quarter, down from a market share of 34% in the previous quarter, according to market sources, citing IDC data.

IMHO this market will continue to grow fast - in particular 2008 (Olympic games will be some kind of milestone for mainland in gaining reputation)
