Judy,

A rumor crossed my desk today that might explain the $50+ stock and no split. It is spoken that Steve wants into the midrange business and might buy ProAmerica/Dickens Data Systems. This would give him the RS/6000, the HP workstation and several supporting product lines, as well as higher margins.

This would explain the holdback on a split, as an acquisition would dilute the share price.
