@Eracer - DC " I will say almost no one should buy that single-core 3.4GHz P4 even after it falls to $163. The dual-core 3.4GHz Pentium D 945 will be offered at the same price. "
I have written about this today on WO yet. Seems like I have to agree marketing wise, but what is the net effect for the consumer? I don't want to argue against DC overall, but tell me, how many APPS (office, Email, browser, explorer, search, VoIP, most picture editors = normal tasks) TODAY!!! gain on DC systems? In the end, a SC 3,4GHz will be as fast as (or min. slowlier) a DC 3,4GHz Intel - btw: the same goes for AMD, where I see many fast A64 doing better jobs for avarage JOE than a "low-end" X2 - TODAY! (3700+ vs. X2-3800+) As time goes by and vista will appear (+64Bit), things will change, but I'm not a strong presenter of thoughts who tend to point in the direction that SC is now "worthless" -> I'm really waiting for faster SC Bins, which sadly don't come for normal desktop systems ... just my 2C. Means, I don't know why anyone (Intel or AMD) should sell now a e.g. 3,6GHz SC-part for way less than e.g. a 3,2G DC-part ...
