Several countries made it clear they did not and would not approve of any resolution that led to military force. Approval of 1441 in no way authorized force, but merely talks (for the umpteenth time) about consequences.

We may have "interpreted" 1441 as you describe, but we knew darn well that we did not have the SC's "permission" for invasion in any way. We chose to do it regardless.

Whether we should or should not have aside, to say the UN approved the war is just not accurate.
