I grew up on the edge of London , England. Walked or biked to school, parents did not have a car anyway. At age 13 my parents let me travel by myself from London to Marseille to stay with a french penfriend. In those days, 1955, you went by ferry and train. had to cross Paris on the metro. My mother saw me off at Victoria station. Since then I've been pretty independent, except for 40 years of marriage <g>
At age 13 some people seem reluctant to let their kids ride the local Vancouver transit by themselves.
