Hi, Mephisto!!!

I did see the ring that Dodi gave Diana. I was pretty shocked, because even though it was worth $205,000 as I recall, I personally thought it was totally tacky and looked like something you would find in a jewelry store in Reno at one of the casinos. Sorry if you're from around there, anyone, just substitute some other place!!! Las Vegas will do fine. Very glitzy, huge, vulgar if you want my opinion. I realize it was probably platinum and had one huge diamond in it, but I just did not like it. Did you like it, Mephisto?? I am probably not a very good person to ask about a ring like that, since I do not like diamonds at all, after seeing as an impressionable child a '40's (I think) movie called "Ropes of Sand" about the horrendous conditions the African diamond miners had to go through to get them out of the ground.

Dodi had given the ring to Diana tonight, but it was still in its box in the car. Since there is quite a bit of credible evidence from staff and friends of Diana that the relationship was serious, and the jeweler who sold the ring to Dodi said Diana had helped him pick it out, I am a little confused about the whole ring issue. Diana usually had wonderful taste in jewelry, and liked colored stones and pearls like I do, as well.

It looks like Dodi was in a hurry that night, and insisted on returning to his apartment, because it was their last night together before she flew off to see her children, and he had left the poem he wrote, engraved on a silver plaque, under her pillow at the apartment.

I am also curious about the other car. This again brings out the conspiracy theorists, as it is unexplained and puzzling. Investigators now want to question Dodi's bodyguard about why he had just fastened his seat belt--the newspaper said bodyguards normally do not wear them.

Mohammed al Fayed had spent billions of dollars on buying the Ritz and Harrod's and leasing that mansion on the outskirts of Paris where the Duke and Dutchess of Windsor lived. He wanted so badly to be accepted in English society, but with the exception of Diana's father--who Diana said to the press just before the accident was Mohammed's best friend--there was an enormous amount of prejudice against him, polo ponies and private boarding schools notwithstanding. He must feel absolutely horrible now. However, I have also heard that just under a very mellow, kind, polite surface he can be ruthless.
