imho killing of zarqawi is bigger than it seems. His departure from the scene may make it easier to reach sectarian compromise as the foreign jihadis are overtaken by nationalist insurgents. In the short run this may yield more attacks on US forces and less on shiaa civilians. This in turn will get shiaa militias to back off. This could be the start of a good time for the US to start disengagement from combat and fall back to positions where are troops are protected but available while iraqis start to sort things out. What we need is an iraqi govt that can tell us to take the inevitable hike, while at the same time controlling the sectarian violence. Chances for this are better today than they were yesterday.
