Gigabit TCP communication using software processing alone is enough to fully load a 2.4 GHz Pentium 4 processor, which results in little or no processing resources left for the applications to run on the system.


AMD announced already (http://www.itjungle.com/breaking/bn031506-story01.html) that chipsets with TOE are forthcoming for Socket F. While being much more important for high BW servers, I bet this technology will quickly trickle down all the way to thin clients.
