A vialbe third party would need to neuter the hot button social issues in order to win. Here are a couple of things for a social moderate third party to do. Many will accept this while the christian right and the abortion left can support whats left of the rep and dem parties.

1. abortion and reproduction--be for some stem cell, RU 486, contraception but stress the human component of the fetus as shown earlier and earlier with better and better sonograms. Be for fewer abortions and make the rules tougher and tougher as you go longer and longer into the pregnancy.
2. For defense of marriage act, but also for domestic partnerships and againt amending constitution and for states rights.
