Recent Vonage IPO Attacked by Naked Short Sellers
June 9, 2006
The Wall Street Journal is reporting that regulators at the New York Stock Exchange are investigating whether shortsellers contributed to Vonage Holdings (NYSE: VG) weak initial public offering (IPO). The exchange's regulatory unit sent a letter to Wall Street securities firms on Thursday asking how dealers may have facilitated short sales. Shares of Vonage are up $.36 to $12.15 on moderate volume but have declined about thirty percent since its IPO price of $17 per share. Charlie Gasparino of CNBC Business News has also reported on the matter this morning, saying that naked short sellers potentially targeted the company because of the tough competition it faces and skepticism over its business.
