Early last year, the European Union Competition Commission opened an investigation into Apple's pricing practices at the behest of Britain's Office of Fair Trading. Users of the British iTunes Web site are charged 99 pence, or $1.82, for most iTunes tracks, while French users are charged 99 euro cents, or $1.25.

You can blame the Beatles for that, though now that the lawsuit is over, maybe they'll lower prices for the Brits. :-)

Why can't the Brits just use the euro? Then they'll be charged the same 99 euro cents.

Why can't everyone just buy music from the US store? Would that be illegal? Visitors to NYC buy CDs here and take them abroad. Why not iTunes gift cards in US denominations? I assume Americans can download (buy) songs from the Music Store while traveling abroad. Why can't foreigners buy songs from the US store? If it's a matter of having a physical US address, what about a US maildrop (PO Box, friend/relative's address)? Can foreign students buy from the US iTunes Store then take their songs back home when they're done? Do the Music Store check to see where you're calling from? Is there a clear way to do this without being like China? What about spoofing the IP? Would that be a crime (like watching non region 1 DVDs)?

You could get in more trouble downloading a song in the wrong place than having a copy of Playboy in a Muslim country.
