captainfreedom, on "marketing hype"
I think you should remember that a majority of the systems purchased are done so because (1) the store is advertising an item as a special and (2) the sales person is able to convince the buyer of the merits of one thing over another.
If Conroe is not available (and it will be available only in limited quantities in 2006) the stores will advertise other systems and instruct their sales people to "nudge" buyers towards other systems. If you insist on a Conroe machine, expect them to be unavailable unless you happen to also be buying some other items -- "I can check on availability, would you like a flat panel display to go with that sir?"
As to the merits of 64-bit, or low power, or cost, or screen size, or virtualization, or dual-core, or performance, etc., those are all things that the sales person has to work with to close the sale. "I'd recommend the 64-bit system, sir, to make sure you're ready for Microsoft's Vista operating system when they release it."
[Edit:] Oh, and as you just appear to be one more of the line of AMD bashers we've seen on this board, this will be my last response. Unless I detect that you really are interested in learning rather than bashing. |
