Well while mathematicians do soldier on, their direction was changed by Godel. They no longer search for completely axiomatic systems. The results of this are quite profound. It affects just about all research and sets the limits of human and machine knowledge. As I pointed out before by the late 1960's they were telling us in undergrad school that systems were not self verifiable. Godel had made his point. A generation before this was not the case. The reprecussion of this have a implications in education vis a vis religion versus darwinism. Amazingly the religionists are just as justified as Darwin whereas they may be wrong as well. They just cannot tell. Truth is not always provable. This does not mean that not provable is true of course. Godel did say however that god must exist.

Philosophically it points to an infinity of systems. Outside the spiritual and all powerful god head there is a fundamental other system. God is not self consistent.
