Kerry's wound was more serious than Bob Dole's for which he admitted he received a second Purple Heart. Dole confesses the small sliver wound in his arm was treated with iodine and a bandaid. Kerry's was treated with a large bandage. Dole refused to come to Kerry's defense in 2004 though he knew Kerry was a true hero who was being smeared. It's called partisan politics.

Thousands of combat vets have Purple Hearts from small sliver wounds. But small sliver wounds can kill. If they slice an artery or get lodged next to the spine or heart they are every bit as deadly as a bulletwound.
