Invasive plants and animals are just simply going to replace many of our "native" species. In the southeast there are many transplants from Asia that are ever present, including a really nasty form of bamboo grass that grows fast and weedy.
Reading an interesting book now about plants that have outlived the animals they co-evolved with "Ghosts of Evolution". A lot of these invasives will most likely eventually just replace many plants of the western hemisphere:

Too bad they won't also replace the nuts growing in Washington DC :)
