I tried to figure all that stuff out once, but then I forgot.

But were't the forward contracts (that made so much money for some gold companies all during the bear market in gold) a kind of short selling? They sold at a higher price, counting on honoring the contracts at a lower price. And in some cases, I think they did sell more gold than they were capable of producing.
