If future price cuts on Athlon 64 are bigger than Sempron why buy one of the faster Sempron models?
"

Thats correct, when you ask me, AMDs wants to shift demand
from Sempron to A64, which is a better product. I'm not the
only one here who thinks that AMD should introduce faster
SC A64 modells NOW!!! and they will compete EXTREMLY WELL
against all SC which Intel has - keep in mind, that these
are HEAVY volume sellers, just alone Celeron is a big big
unit driver for Intel. Also keep in mind, that many Business
SKUs use Celeron as a base, so if AMD puts the A64 WAY WAY
above 5xx/6xx with Price/Performance, it would be a "desaster"
for the BIG BOYS (OEMs) to "forget" A64 or to not just use
it - also beneath Conroe, which will appear later here too -
of course. So its my understanding, that AMD, as said, hopes
to gain SOCKETS in the most critical sector - Business - and
I see A64 on AM2 as ONE driver NOW!
It seems, that some people have forgotten some AM2 benefits
too - where Sempron, A64 and X2 are now on one platform. So
its easy to design a BOX for the OEMs now with A64 and replace
/add X2 and/or Sempron later if demand is there and/or new
price regions are a target. So add Semprons, if you want to serve
lower price points and add X2 just to compete with DC platforms
from the competition. Its that easy, also when we have the
65/35W TDP from AM2 in mind, which allows ANY!!! design factor
, which will appear in the next time.

Too bad Athlon 64 X2 will likely lag behind Conroe on performance/price even after 35-50% price cuts.
"

I'm not as sure as your, just look at 64Bit benches in the NEW C't (german Tech magazine - number 1)
where performance between the two get a whole different pic-
ture. You also forget performance using VT, but its clear,
these things aren't Intels strenghts, so its not important.
And as the PIVs lagged X2, performance wasn't a key point -
so the critical points always change, just as they (Intel)
need.
