Wow, if even the staunchest of AMD supporters believes that the Athlon 64 3800+ doesn't provide a very attractive alternative to the P4 then I guess AMD IS doomed. It also indicates that if AMD doesn't launch faster single-core Athlon 64s then AMD executives want to drive AMD and its share price into the ground. Just ask gzubeck.

AMD sells SC Opterons with 1MB Cache and 3GHz for quite a long time and you think, that we couldn't introduce 2,6G and 2,8G 512KB A64 SC L2 parts? Boa, crazy stuff...

Since AMD didn't introduce 2.4GHz and 2.6GHz Semprons I assume AMD doesn't care about the budget processor market. And how many 3GHz Opterons does AMD produce in a quarter? 25,000? 10,000? How many would they need to produce if they were selling them at $150?
