Yes, we've brought up the issue of what IS awareness,conciousness, or intelligence... as well as what life forms are capable of what.

I dont' see "capable of thought" in the definition of aware:

Aware: having or showing realization, perception, or knowledge

Although some definitions of thought could perhaps be applied to lower life forms I suppose:

2 : to have as an intention

Well, you'd have to define "thought" to decide if it's pertinent or not. As I said earlier, I think we would need to define awareness, consciousness, intelligence, and the like (thought) to continue. So his comment is only pertinent if he follows up on it...
