I didn't witness any troops being disrespected, and I was in a lot of demonstrations. I was a hippy Vietnam draft dodger, and all the people I knew felt nothing but sorry for the soldiers that went to Vietnam. Soldiers taught me how to dodge the draft!

We wouldn't have dreamed of blaming them for their misfortune - after all, most of them had been drafted, and faced with the choice of being a slave/soldier or going to prison or fleeing to Canada. We blamed the government then, just as now.

I think it was an urban legend meme that was siezed by the right and blown all out of proportion. Now, it's "common knowledge"!
