There are many possibilities.

But if the author is correct, there ought to be confirmation somewhere. Furthermore, what Dirk is alleged to have said could be deemed "material" for SEC purposes.

It is also possible that Dirk let something slip in the roundtable and immediately thought, "Oops, I shouldn't have said that! I'd better be quiet and hope no one notices."

I'm going to treat that reported comment as a data point and not as a benchmark until there is confirmation for or against.
