CHICAGO, June 1 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- NAVTEQ (NYSE: NVT), a leading global provider of digital map data for location based solutions and vehicle navigation, has been selected by AAA as its preferred digital map provider for the United States and Canada. AAA already utilizes NAVTEQ® maps for its Internet TripTik®, an online travel planning, mapping and routing tool which allows AAA members to plan trips and acquire directions to and from specific destination points.

AAA has now also chosen NAVTEQ to provide the critical street and highway data network that powers AAA's successful D/2000 Roadside Assistance application. The D/2000 Roadside Assistance application provides AAA and CAA clubs with a location-enabled roadside assistance system for call taking, dispatching and service delivery management that includes integrated mapping and mileage calculation. NAVTEQ's reliable map data is important to AAA's Roadside Assistance software applications to provide that its member vehicles can be located and serviced quickly and efficiently.

"AAA has worked with NAVTEQ for years, and is the only mapping company that meets our strict standards for accuracy and reliability. NAVTEQ shares our desire to provide AAA members the highest level of service that they have come to expect," said Rick Rinner, Executive Vice President at AAA. "Utilizing NAVTEQ as our preferred map data supplier in the US and Canada was a logical choice for AAA."
