The facts are that both DMT and CAP modems are both in current production and utilization in various trials. Their relative "cost" is extremely difficult to ascertain, given the divergence between various claims made by vendors and the actual cost as implemented. Besides, at twenty to fifty modems per vendor per trial, do you really think cost is now a significant consideration? I daresay that cost will likely only enter into the equation in the third round, which will be the first broad deployment.

Significant contract awards, namely the recent RFP, will likely be distributed among multiple vendors of both modems and total system integration equipment. Some vendors are more performance-proficient (speed and reliability) and others offer the total integrated solution. To the best of my knowledge, no one has offered an example of a vendor that excels in each area.
