A good reason Bush does not want to secure the border with Mexico may be that the administration is trying to create express lanes for Mexican trucks to bring containers with cheap Far East goods into the heart of the U.S., all without the involvement of any U.S. union workers on the docks or in the trucks.

Sounds like a good reason to me.

Cheaper goods for the US consumer, more work for Mexicans in Mexico, sounds like a win-win.

But I think it's silly to say there won't be security, there's more security at Mexican border checkpoints than in US ports. Enough drug dogs and armed deputies to inspect every truck, if need be, not 6% like the Coast Guard.
