no, just somebody who's spent a lot of time in Mexico. LA was the second biggest concentration of Mexicans outside Mexico City in 2002. Guess the number today.

We were all brought up with the mantra of free trade. the only ones I know who are against it are my demo friends. In case you didn't know it, they've been moving toward protectionism.

But then Bush put up the tariffs on steel. Does that make him less of a free trader, or just an equal opportunity politician, grubbing for votes?

The shibboleths of old are falling. I think all the received wisdom is now suspect. Including free trade, globalism, the UN, diversity, etc, etc. It's all opinion at this point. Look at the source, look at the affect in the real world, then make up your own mind.

BTW, if I have to go Hispanic, I'll take Miami. The culture there is from all over Latin America, represents the "alta gente," and is a hell of a lot more interesting than what the poor Mexican farm workers who flood LA bring.

Of course, the second you step outside of Miami it's all Central Americans. Also, the Spanish speakers in Miami don't want to work with the English speakers, unless they're bilingual. And maybe not then.

So American citizens, those last few who were in love with "diversity" and the mix of cultures, are getting shoved out. I'm speaking specifically of advertising. Sort of amusing, if I had a taste for irony.

These were the ones who stayed when everybody was running around in the late 70's with bumper stickers that read: "Will the last American to leave Miami please bring the flag." Obviously PC hadn't taken hold yet.

they looked down on people who objected as bigoted isolationists. You know, America Firsters and Charles Lindburgh. In the MSM and popular upper middle-class culture, isolationism has become a synonym for those things. God forbid I should be called an isolationist. those people didn't want us to go into either world war.

You have to make up your own mind about these things. Just look at how the culture and education are manipulated to whatever end those in control desire. And then decide if you like it or not, depending on what you see in the real world. But you have to look past the message to the messenger.

Personally I'd prefer to have a little bit of the America I grew up with left when I die. Call me silly, but I'm sentimental that way.
