For the 2004 election Republicans actually had slightly more registered voters than Dems at approx 37% each. The MSM knows this fact yet their polls always dramatically oversample libs & equally under sample Republicans. And this isn't journalistic malpractice?
Latest AP/Ipsos Poll Defies Description
Posted by Tom Elia The
The latest AP/Ipsos poll is out, and it has President Bush's approval rating at 35%.
The polls' respondents also favor Democratic congressional candidates over Republican congressional candidates by 20 points, 52% to 32%.
This certainly does not appear to be good news for Bush or the Repubs.
However, a breakdown of the respondents' political leanings follows thusly (pdf file -- page 9 linked below):
53% Dems
37% Repubs
Does any reasonable person believe that an accurate representation of the US electorate would break down 53% Dem, 37% Repub?
Do the Dems really hold a 16-point lead on the Repubs?
As a point of reference, only 4 times in US history has a Democratic Party candidate for president achieved a majority and won by 16% points or more*: 1832, 1932, 1936, and 1964.
On its face, this appears at best to be a fanciful description of the US electorate.
*Andrew Jackson won in 1832 with 54.2% of the vote, and a margin of victory of 16.8%. FDR twice: in 1932 with 57%.4 of the vote, and a 17.8% margin of victory; and in 1936 with 60.8% of the vote, and a margin of victory of 24.3%. LBJ in 1964 with 61% of the vote, and a 22.5% margin of victory.
