Note that I am NOT saying that I believe the accusations made against him. I am only observing that he does a poor job of defending himself.

Let's just say that if Kerry had the facts behind him, I think even he would have a much easier time defending himself.

No, as far as I can judge, Bush's problem is different. He decided some time ago that he should never or very rarely admit to a mistake as a matter of policy. What he recognizes or doesn't is harder to make out, and it's true that he's quite stubborn and slow to change his mind once made up. But I always got the sense that this was a matter of politics. With Kerry, it seems personal. He's indignant that anybody would doubt his tales, or notice their contradictions.
