I was a recruiter for over 20 years, and saw a few recessions. NOTHING like the late 1999-2001 near depression. Go back and see the newspapers of 2000! PHD's were working at McD's. It was much worse than the 1971-2 recession ...especially here in Seattle, when there were billboards saying "Will the last person out of Seattle, please turn off the lights"....

It was a very bad time for companies, and many of them closed their doors. Again, see your papers of that time.

And because it was a bad time for companies, it was a very bad time for employees, and wantabe employees as well.

If there are not many jobs, there aren't many who can find new ones. And of course, many people lost the jobs they had.

The dotcoms had burst. And many went down the drain.

The only jobs available were for those candidates who had every one of the qualifiers, plus the kitchen sink as well. AND had a terrific attitude .....and could work for low pay and maybe stock options.
