I think you can embrace the unknowns and STILL do something about the environment

If the something comes at a reasonably low cost to wealth and freedom than yes you can do something about it, esp. if the something is easily reversible should earlier projections prove to be very wrong. OTOH taking massively expensive measures probably isn't called for with the current level of unknown, esp. if part of what is unknown is whether the measures will be either necessary or sufficient to deal with the problem (assuming the problem is as bad as some people claim).
