Circuit City Stores Backs 2007 View, Sees Breakeven 1st-Quarter Results

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- Electronics retailer Circuit City Stores Inc. on Wednesday backed its fiscal 2007 financial forecast, and projected break-even results in the first quarter.

Wall Street's forecast for the current quarter is a penny per share, the average estimate of 27 analysts surveyed by Thomson Financial.

The fiscal 2007 calls for consolidated net sales up from 7 percent to 11 percent, including same-store sales growth between 5 percent to 7 percent; depreciation and amortization expense of about $180 million; earnings from continuing operations before income taxes (EBT) as portion of sales between 2 percent to 2.4 percent; and net capital spending of roughly $280 million.

Circuit City also said it aimed to attain annual EBT as a percentage of sales of 5 percent or more in the next three to five fiscal years.

The company also said it plans to increase the number of domestic superstore openings to 75 to 100 per year by fiscal 2009. It currently operates 630 superstores in the United States and more than 950 locations in Canada.

Shares of the company shed 7 cents to $28.86 in early trading on the New York Stock Exchange.
