Thanks for the clarifications. So, mainly these are analyst opinions, not M-systems opinions. The former are simply looking at the public information, while the companies themselves have much more insight. The analyst opinions are often wrong, while the companies must have more of a factual basis to support their arguments. The most confusing part wasn't that there were two reports, but the wording of the reports/briefs themselves, which isn't your fault.
Anyway, I'm still confused about x4. If it uses MLC, then Sandisk patents likely come into play, and even if it doesn't (which is possible), there are other IP (controllers, process, etc.) that Sandisk has that may be a roadblock to bringing x4 to market. Sandisk can leverage this to license and use x4 in their chips. And even if they don't, they're ahead in other areas than can neutralize any x4 advantage alone. |
