Microsoft's program manager for Windows Client Performance Matt Ayres confirmed to TG Daily that inclusion of hybrid hard drives will be a requirement for mobile systems that carry the Vista Premium logo, beginning in June 2007. Well, that's going to take a couple of fabs or more of capacity in itself. I guess it will depend on the Fab size :-) I would estimate combined annual shipments of laptops and desktops to be around 300mm units. If I assume 512MB as the average amount of nand flash for rapid boot, and if there is 100% implementation starting next year, we are talking about 150PB of nand flash and that amounts to about 7-8% of total nand flash output as projected for next year.
