Who loved them other than central banks?
I say they ran up on one hell of a short squeeze with everyone betting against them followed by foolish helicopter talk from Bernanke.

Yes that was overdone but with a housing bust there is no reason we can't go there again.

I do not believe you can make any case that the masses loved treasuries at 3%
