A couple bear stories:
Last November, as I was busy assembling some piece of furniture, that my significant other had bought at Target, I happened to gaze out the front window in time to see two bears ambling through the yard, the younger bear stopped at my car and stood up as if to look inside it, raising its front paws to the glass. Then then ambled on through the yard into the next. Both bears were black bears, with long dark fur.
A couple of weeks ago one afternoon, I stupidly left the windows down in my Ford Explorer. I happened to have placed a bag of garbage in the back of the explorer that day. Well evidently later that night a bear entered the car and pulled the garbage bag into the back seat and tore it open spreading refuse all over the back part of the car.
Getting a little smarter, the next day after cleaning up the mess, I made sure the windows were closed. Unfortunately I failed to lock the doors. So the following morning I noticed the driver's side door was opened and sure enough deja vu all over the back seat again.
So again after cleaning up the mess, this time I locked the car after making sure all the windows were closed. The next morning I came out to find the plastic door handle broken off from my driver's door and bear foot prints on the hood of the car and on the windshield as well. The handle was laying on the driveway.
That same night, my wife, who had gotten up in the middle of the night and turning the front porch light on, was surprised to see a large bear on the front deck standing by the front door sniffing at the barbeque just outside the door. She saw him through the nearby window and came running back to the bedroom to wake me up. By the time I got up and out to the entry way the bear was gone. She swears it was a large tan colored black bear. |
