Welcome to my homepage. My name is Chippla Vandu.
I had my undergraduate education at Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria, Nigeria, from where I graduated with a Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.) in Chemical Engineering in January 2000. My final year design work involved the design of a plant for the production of formaldehyde. For my research project, I studied the kinetics of epoxidation of soybean oil with hydrogen peroxide in an acetic acid/cation exchange resin medium.
I then proceeded to the University of Twente in Enschede, the Netherlands where I followed a two-year postgraduate programme at the Chemical Technology faculty leading to the award of a Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Chemical Engineering and a Master of Technological Design (MTD) in Process Technology. For my Master thesis, I carried out studies on the Fischer-Tropsch process in a laminar flow slurry reactor at the Energy Research Center of the Netherlands, located in Petten, a town in the north of the Netherlands.
Between November 2002 and May 2005, I worked as a doctoral student at the Chemical Reactor Engineering Group of the University of Amsterdam under the supervision of Professor R. Krishna, the group head. My research work focused on multiphase flow systems with special emphasis on [slurry] bubble column and monolith reactors in relation to relevant industrial processes, like the Fischer-Tropsch reaction. I am currently a researcher at the University of Amsterdam. My current research work involves the application of process intensification principles to multiphase reactors and enzymatic reactions. Areas I am working on at the moment include the Fischer-Tropsch process, granular segregation and gas-solid fluidization.

Welcome to the online home of the Sheda Science and Technology Complex (SHESTCO), a multidisciplinary research and development establishment situated in the Federal Capital Territory of Nigeria, 70 km from the capital city of Abuja. SHESTCO enables institutions as well as individual scientists to undertake a wide range of research and development activities. The multidisciplinary nature of the activities undertaken creates a truly conducive scientific environment, which in turn enhances collaboration, giving rise to unique approaches to the solution of research and developmental problems.
Within the complex are three National Advanced Laboratories in the fields of biotechnology, chemistry and physics, equipped with state-of-the-art facilities. There is also a Nuclear Technology Centre, which houses a gamma irradiation plant. In a drive aimed at spearheading public-private sector partnership as the key to scientific as well as economic growth and development, SHESTCO currently houses and collaborates with the Nigerian branch of the American-based company, Xechem Pharmaceuticals.
SHESTCO aims to become Nigeria's premier research and development institute. Towards achieving this goal, it has put in place adequate research facilities and continues to attract scientists and technologists from other national research and development institutions, universities, polytechnics and industry. It also warmly welcomes international scientists and technologists.
