Tehran, Iran, Jun. 15 – Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei vowed on Thursday that Tehran would continue its nuclear activities, effectively rejecting the terms of a package of incentives offered by the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council (P5) and Germany.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran will not succumb to [the West’s political] pressures and believes that the continuation of this scientific movement is one of its fundamental and prominent goals”, Khamenei told officials of the Atomic Energy Organisation of Iran (AEOI). His comments were aired on state television.

“The valuable and admirable movement of Iranian youths in obtaining domestic nuclear knowledge is historic. This scientific movement must move forward with strength and expand in different dimensions”, Khamenei said.

“The main key to advancement, power, and prosperity of any country is science and technology. A nation which has decided to build its own destiny must obtain this key (capability)”, he said.

The P5 + 1 package comes with the condition that Tehran suspend its uranium enrichment activities.
