Most of that bad bad bad pollutions is state sponsored by some suit backing some insecticide manufacturere or farm lobby who are gunning for profits at the expense of health. You net shortened life span and heart disease, and smaller balls (from monsanto round-up in the canola which mutates frogs and kills them) they get bigger apples. The North American decline in fertility is due to insecticides and herbicides which kill vitamin E, and shrink male testes.

Mining has few of these problems. Lead is a substance that can be taken out of tailings water. Down the line hydrocarbon manufacturers, clothing and electronics cause 10 times more pollution than primary mining. It stands to reason. Entropy. Where you get more entropy you got greater chem combos and more pollution.

Mining is low entropy. It is relatively benign. Cities are high. They are therefore polluting. Farms are polluting. And the highest state of entropy of all? Legislation.
