So that was all you found. You didn't see anything else. I don't believe you didn't see any comments about the Godless stuff. I'm sure you didn't see as many comments- but what you said implied that liberals weren't upset at all, and some clearly are.
I do think the unpatriotic comments stirred more ire because patriotism is a human judgment we make of one another, most religious people, especially those with a personal relationship with their God, would find it ridiculous that someone would tell them they are Godless when they aren't- and of course many of these people have churches which also validate their Godfullness. Patriotism, though, is somewhat a product of what our neighbors and fellow citizens think of us, and there really isn't a church we go to to validate our patriotism. It's something that I think is a more sensitive issue for someone to bring up. Questioning someone's belief in God is just silly, since it is so internal, but questioning someone's patriotism is usually an implicit comment on their behavior (and sure, the God thing could be a comment on behavior, but that makes it just that much more ridiculous, since the lost sheep are just as precious to God, at least in the Christian religion, as the sheep which stay close to home- morally speaking.)
I don't find attacks on patriotism or religious faithfulness very amusing, though. |
