AMD to postpone launch of Socket-F Opteron to August, say sources.
(July 1 -> Aug 1)

" Shawn Chen, Taipei; Jessie Shen, DigiTimes.com [Friday 16 June 2006]

AMD has notified manufacturers in Taiwan that the launch of its Socket-F Opteron platform with 1,207 pins will be postponed to August 1, instead of the originally-planned July 11, according to sources at Taiwan motherboard makers.

AMD declined to comment on the report, stating that the launch schedule of the Socket F CPU has never been announced.

The delayed availability of AMD's Socket-F Opteron processors is part of the vendor's carefully-crafted launch strategy, as the next-generation dual-core Opteron is arriving between Intel's current 65nm dual-core Dempsey and Woodcrest offerings and the upcoming quad-core Clovertown, whose launch is slated to take place in the first quarter of 2007, the sources indicated."
