Randian values are economic and properly place the responsibility for being well and good in the heart of the individual. Via such conduct, it is in the interest of one's self and others to do so. She also makes the point that contributing to the value of life as we know it, is limited to what one can do as a living creature:

“It is only the concept of "Life" that makes the concept of "Value" possible. It is only to a living entity that things can be good or evil.

By pursuing his own interest, [an individual] frequently promotes that of the society more effectually than when he really intends to promote it. “

She stops short of the promoting the 'bound by purpose' notion, at least from what I can gather about her ideas.
