If you check the newspaper articles on this decision, Tim, the focus appears not to be on the knocking provisions. There is apparently agreement that police should knock. As I've typed in other posts, this decision is about what happens to evidence when the police fail to follow the rules. The exclusionary rule. Before this decision, if they failed to knock, the evidence could so obtained could not be used in the case; after this it can be. I see this as a forerunner, given the CATO Institute abstract I posted, as a forerunner for dropping the exclusionary rule across the board.
