PS re evolution:

And as you probably know there were two distinct theories of evolution debated until the 1950's: Lamarkian and Darwinian. Darwinain won out and Lamarkain was banished. Interestingly Russia continued to follow Lamarkian evolution and as a consequence fell considerably behind us in breeding superior plants and animals.
