The obvious reason is demographics: China was always much more populous than Europe and the Americas taken together. Remember that, up to now, the US Civil War is the US's bloodiest war with about 620,000 fatalities...() Now imagine China experiencing her own civil war today --the death toll would probably be around 62,000,000 --commensurate with China's 1.3 billion population.
