It seems Walmart ain't feeling the love. Wal-Mart's Woes Abroad May Stunt Growth By Jim Cramer RealMoney.com Columnist 6/19/2006 9:38 AM EDT What happens if your long-term growth rate starts slowing? What happens if you can't replicate you model everywhere? This kind of worry didn't play out for McDonald's, which is loved overseas. Same for Starbucks. And Yum! Brandshas performed spectacularly overseas. Which brings me to Wal-Mart. Once again, the news out of Germany, and now England, is negative. There had been worries that Wal-Mart, which has struggled in Germany, might pull out of that country entirely. This weekend Wal-Mart confirmed that it is examining its German operations after closing three stores. It might close even more, and the sense of the announcement is that the company may just admit defeat there. This is on top of the problems Wal-Mart is having in South Korea, where sales are weak. Both countries are templates for other areas, both Central Europe and Asia. Now also comes the news that workers at Wal-Mart's food-store operation in the U.K., Asda, may go on strike this week.
